Get in the Game with the Ottawa Irish Women’s Rugby Club

Whether you’re a newcomer to the sport, a little out of practice, or a seasoned veteran, the Ottawa Irish Rugby Club (OIRC) have a team for you. The OIRC women have three teams, two senior competitive—a Premier and seconds team—and a junior team (under-19). We have a super coach lined up for this season, so you’re sure to learn a lot if you play with the Irish.

The OIRC’s Premier team has been at top of the EORU and Quebec league since it began in 1995 and has placed second in Ontario for three consecutive years. The Irish women’s seconds team had also been highly successful, always ranking at the top of its league. We’ve had women who are looking to try something different and have never touched a rugby ball to players that have competed at rugby’s highest level, playing for Canada’s National Senior Womens Team against the best in the world.

Starting in May, outdoor practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30-8:30 at Colonel By High School (Montreal Road and Ogilivie area). Pre-season practices are every Tuesday in April at the SuperDome (1660 Bearbrook Road) from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. The Premier league runs from in early May to the end of August. The second team’s first game is late May. Most games for Ottawa clubs are at Twin Elm (Fallowfield and Moodie Drive area) on Saturdays and some Wednesdays. The Premier team also travels to Quebec, to play their strongest sides.

Registration is $275 for university/college players and $325 for seniors. This fee includes Rugby Canada dues, Rugby Ontario dues, insurance, which entitles you to $500 in medical coverage, and an Ottawa Irish warm-up shirt and socks. It also covers the costs of referees, coaches, fields, athletic therapists, equipment, jerseys, tournaments, etc.
