Get in the Game with the Ottawa Irish Rugby Club Whether you’re a newcomer to the sport, a little out of practice, or a seasoned veteran, the Ottawa Irish Rugby Club (OIRC) have a team for you. The OIRC men have two senior teams—a Premier and seconds team—and a junior teams (under-1). We are committed to developing players of all skill levels so you’re sure to learn a lot by choosing the Irish. For more information on our junior teams, click here. The OIRC’s Premier team has been among the top teams of the EORU Bardon league, and have competed in the Ontario McCormack Cup each season. The Irish seconds team had also been highly successful, always ranking at or near the top of its league. We have men who are looking to try something different and have never touched a rugby ball along with players that have competed at rugby’s highest levels. Starting in May, outdoor practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30-8:30 at Colonel By High School (Montreal Road and Ogilivie area). During late April and early May, practices are every Tuesday and Thursday at North River Rd. Park (at the top of Queen Mary St., west off of Vanier Pkwy). The Premier mens league runs from in early May to the end of October. The second team league wraps up in the early fall. Most games for Ottawa clubs are at Twin Elm (Fallowfield and Moodie Drive area) on Saturdays. The Premier team also travels to Quebec for league games. Registration is $275 for university/college players and $325 for seniors. This fee includes Rugby Canada dues, Rugby Ontario dues, insurance, which entitles you to $500 in medical coverage, and an Ottawa Irish warm-up shirt and socks. It also covers the costs of referees, coaches, fields, athletic therapists, equipment, jerseys, tournaments, etc. You have to be registered to play/practice (for insurance reasons), so we’re asking for a minimum of $150 before getting into any contact situation. If you want to register before coming out or have any questions, contact Wil Thompson by clicking here .
